Someone asked me the other day, where I get the inspiration to draw what. Sometimes it’s something I’ve learnt - at a seminar, in a book, or in a uni class. Other times, I’m trying to make sense of something in my own head or commit it to memory. Occasionally I get really riled, or excited, or scared and just have to put it into scribbles and sketches. A lot of the time I think about Carrie Fishers words and I take my broken heart and I make it into art, And... well... other times I just draw the thing I most need to see. Today, it’s the latter. What would you add?

Repost • @sofiaaboren Yesterday evening I decided to stop my hunger strike. My body felt like a trainwreck, my mind as well. (but it’s better now.) ⠀⠀ I have the privilege to be able to eat whenever I want. I never have to go hungry. I never have to worry about when my next meal is going to be. At the same time, more than 820 million people in the world suffer from chronic hunger and malnutrition. That number is only going to rise as the global temperature increases, as soil erosion and desertification continues, as extreme drought and extreme floods and wildfires become more common... and as our wild pollinators continue to die as a result of industrial agriculture.🥀 ⠀⠀ There is enough food for everyone. Earth can provide for everyone. But the way we’ve set up our systems, food is not a guarantee for everyone. Meat production, industrial overfishing and food waste makes the cycle grossly inefficient. ⠀⠀ A future of mass starvation is not unimaginable. Rather, it is a likely scenario. Even when we can, we don’t provide for everyone. I am afraid of how things will eventually be as food becomes a true scarcity...😞 ⠀⠀ There are so many things that are wrong in this world and sometimes I have a hard time holding on to hope❤️💔 . . . . . #ecoanxiety #climatechange #systemchangenotclimatechange #extinctionrebellion #rebel4life #rebellion #environmentalism #climateanxiety #climateaction #civildisobedience #climatecrisis #activism #climateactivism #overturningtheapplecart #climatehungerstrike #foodsecurity #hungerstrike #globalhungerstrike

In East Kolkata Wetlands, a wide range of communities—from IT professionals to fisherfolk—depend on the sewage fed freshwater system. But since the management functions are harnessed by the government body EKWMA, can all those who depend on it, also participate in its management? If not, what impact does it have on the resource? "During unleash I got a chance to interact with some super humans and create amazing new friendships. I truly realized the power of people and how strangers can turn into friends in a short span. We all came from such diverse cultures and countries, yet connected so well through our hearts and minds. We spent days and nights working closely within the SDG 12 track, and helped each other out at every phase. We have now built a network with such beautiful people across the world." Today on Patreon, our Community Manager Prakriti Rajvanshi shares her experience at @unleashlab! This amazing human was 1 of 8000 people to be selected (only 1000 chosen!) to participate in a design thinking challenge to create an innovative solution to SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. Link in bio to read her reflection on Patreon (WE LOVE YOU, PRAKS!).

I grew up in a lovely place. One of the most beautiful regions in the world. I often wonder if where you were raised is the greatest determinate of how much you care for the planet. So many people I know from my childhood have gone on to careers in sustainability or integrate it into their day to day life. It wasn't just that we learned about the environment in school (which we did, very early on) but we lived in a place defined by its natural landscape. //📸 Sunset on a Monday, October 2019 . . . . . #sunset #California #Stinson #photography #home #environmentalism #sustainability #latenightthoughts

Did you know our own Senior Fellow of Natural History and @riotandthedance author Dr. Gordon Wilson has written a new book? “If Christianity is the only legitimate foundation for solving environmental problems, why is it that groups with wrong religion or philosophy are trying much harder to solve them?” Dr. Gordon Wilson’s book, A Different Shade of Green, is both a refreshing primer for Christians with questions about environmentalism and a spur for the indolent. Green issues polarize—the left looks hysterical, and the right seems apathetic. Neither approach is preferable—A Different Shade offers the better way: A Biblical Approach to Environmentalism and the Dominion Mandate. Because they're weak, the plants are weak! These plants don't have the nutrients they need. Healthy plants have higher Brix levels (sugar content) and the insects can't ingest the high amounts of sugar. As a result, insect will avoid healthy plants. Healthy plants are also less prone to diseases. We don't need poisons to protect our plants, we need to give them the nutrients they need to be strong, to be healthy, to be safe. An overflow crowd of over 260 people jammed the American Legion Hall Tuesday night in Blountsville with more people on the outside. Other than the Tyson representative, everyone who spoke including several scientists, nonprofits like Black Warrior Riverkeeper and Alabama Rivers Alliance, mothers, paddlers, locals, & even a Locust Fork High School student, spoke for more stringent regulations than currently exist. Contrary to statements by the Tyson representative professing to be a “good corporate citizen” and this being just a routine permit renewal, 1.) A biology professor from Samford speaking as a private citizen who has conducted recent studies in Graves Creek above and below the Tyson outfall pipe presented evidence of damaging levels of phosphorus and nitrogen discharged into Graves Creek. 2.) It was also noted by others that this permitting process is NOT just routine but designed to actually improve water quality from permit to permit. The water quality of the Locust Fork CAN be improved if ADEM will step up and require more from Tyson and enforce violations like in other states with much better records on pollution from poultry slaughter facilties. A huge thanks to the community for turning out! With the outpouring last night, FLFR is hopeful ADEM will do the right thing. #fightforcleanwater #saveourrivers #cleanrivers #cleanwateract #EPA #environmentalism #environmentaljustice #loveourplanet #ADEMhearing #alabamadepartmentofenvironmentalmanagement #sustainablefood #sustainablefuture #alabamariversalliance #blackwarriorriver #blackwarriorriverkeeper #friendsofthelocustforkriver #locustforkriver #blountcounty #blountcountyalabama #thisisalabama #alabamathebeautiful ・・・ #Repost @friendsof_locustforkriver

73 multi-million dollar companies reported hits to earnings as a direct result of climate change in the last year. Production and supply delays following periods of extreme weather were mostly to blame, but they also show a steady decline in supply chain efficiency over the past six years influenced by other environmental factors. In contrast, declines in the financial sector were almost entirely due to natural disasters and extreme weather. Researchers who compiled the companies’ data see this trend as a sign that more corporations will implement policies and programs to help account for or mitigate climate change-related factors. 30% of major shareholders now support the implementation of official climate change resolutions by the companies in which they have invested, an unprecedented proportion of an otherwise skeptical group. Employees are also pushing for climate action in the private sector, as they believe climate risks may soon affect their wages and job security. Companies like Amazon and Prudential are already facing organized pressure within their own ranks after reporting that climate change had significantly impacted both quarterly and annual earnings. #environment #environmentalism #ecocentric #plasticfree #nomoreplasticpollution #nomoreplastic #ocean #activism #climateaction #plasticsucks #nature #savetheearth #earth #sustainable #eco #sustainability #ecofriendly #environmentallyfriendly #news #education #greennewdeal #trump #oildrilling #offshoredrilling #arctic #climatechange

🍃It's 50 years since Buddhist teachers started arriving in the west in the early 60s and Buddhism crash-landed into the counterculture. So what have we learned about western Buddhism? 1. ❤️It's not all about #enlightenment. Many who found Buddhism in the 60s saw nirvana as the ultimate peak experience. A decade later these recovering hippies were painfully finding out that Buddhism is more concerned with reshaping character and behaviour than big, mystical experiences. 2. ❤️It doesn't focus on monks. In most Asian countries Buddhist monks are the real practitioners, focusing on meditation and study while lay people support them. Distinctions between monks and lay people does not fit in with modern society and western monastic orders are relatively scarce. 3. ❤️The schools are mixing together. Most Asian Buddhist teachers assumed they would establish their existing schools in western countries. Hence we have western Zen, western Theravada etc. But the boundaries are breaking down as western Buddhists, motivated by common needs, explore the whole Buddhist tradition. 4. ❤️Mindfulness is where Buddhism and the west meet. Buddhist mindfulness practices are being applied to everything from mental health treatments to eating, and we're now seeing a "mindfulness boom". These approaches apply core Buddhist insights to modern living, making this the biggest development in western Buddhism since the 1960s. 5. ❤️But it's not the only meeting point. The #mindfulness #movement is hyped as the "new Buddhism for the west". But, unless you're following the noble onefold path, there's more to Buddhism than mindfulness. Buddhist influence on western culture is strong in the arts, social action, #environmentalism #psychotherapy and practitioners' lives. 6. ❤️But sex doesn't go away. Scandals and anguished life stories show that, even for people who prize celibacy, sex doesn't go away. Is this really a surprise? 7. ❤️And we still don't know if western #Buddhism is secular or #religious.
